MEDICARE Disenrollment Period Ends February 14
Unhappy with your Medicare Advantage Plan? Did you know that from January 1st through February 14th, you can disenroll from your current Medicare Advantage Plan? During the first 45 days of the year (during the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period, or MADP), you can leave your Medicare Advantage Plan and change to Original Medicare, with or without also selecting a separate stand-alone Medicare drug plan (Part D). However, you cannot make any changes to your coverage during this period if you already have Original Medicare. You also cannot switch from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another during this period.
Changes can be made only during this limited time period, unless you are eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (such as change in employment).
For more information or for assistance in making a change, contact SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program) of Union County at 908-273-6999 to set up a free, confidential and objective consultation. Services are available at SAGE Eldercare in Summit or at the Senior Council Offices at 2204 Morris Avenue in Union. Counseling is also available over the phone for those who cannot travel.
